Venue and Travel

Please note that due to unforeseen circumstances, the conference venue was changed. The conference will take place at Hotel Titris Odborar in Tatranska Lomnica (around 20 kilometers from Strbske Pleso).

The conference will be held in Hotel Titris Odborar in Tatranska Lomnica, located in High Tatras. All registered participants will be accommodated in the conference hotel. All rooms are equipped with a TV set and ethernet connection to internet (one socket per room). Please bring ethernet cables with you. Free wifi will be provided in the hotel lobby and in both lecture rooms. Each participant is eligible for one 2-hour entrance to the pool and sauna part of the hotel.

Full board will be provided for each participant. The meals will be served as follows:

breakfast from 7:00 till 10:00
lunch from 12:00 till 14:00
dinner from 18:00 till 21:00

If you wish to go hiking and skip a meal, you can ask for a packed meal instead.

Please note that Tatranska Lomnica is situated at ~1000m altitude, therefore average daily temperatures are not expected to exceed 20 degres centigrade. Morning temperatures can drop to as low as 5 degrees. If you plan to do hiking in higher areas of High Tatras, you should wear a proper tourist outfit. Also consider purchasing an additional insurance for hiking activities.

From Tatranska Lomnica railway station to the conference hotel

The hotel is about 850m away from the Tatranska Lomnica Railway Station, click here for directions.

From Poprad Railway Station to Tatranska Lomnica

By taxi: most convenient, takes about 30 minutes, costs around 20 EUR.
By train: buy a ticket to Tatranska Lomnica. There are two distinct routes: one operates via Studeny Potok (leaves Poprad every 90 minutes, takes 30 minutes), the other one goes via Stary Smokovec (operates hourly, takes 50 minutes). In both cases you have to change trains in Studeny Potok and Stary Smokovec, respectively. The tickets costs around 2 EUR
By bus: busses depart from the railway station apprx. every 2 hours, the journey takes 30 minutes, costs 1.20 EUR

From Bratislava to Poprad

Go to the Bratislava main railway station (can be conveniently reached by many buses and trams), and buy a fast-train ticket to Poprad. Trains operate on an hourly schedule. Please note that intercity express trains require a special ticket and a mandatory seat reservation.

From Kosice to Poprad

If you arrive at the Kosice Airport, take a taxi or the shuttle bus to the Kosice main railway station.
Once at the Kosice station, you have three options:
1. Buy a fast-train ticket to Poprad and take a taxi from Poprad to Tatranska Lomnica as mentioned above.
2. Buy a fast-train ticket to Tatranska Lomnica, reach the conference venue by changing trains in Poprad as described above.
3. Traveling by taxi from Kosice to Tatranska Lomnica can cost as much as 200 EUR and is NOT recommended.
The fast-train schedule from Kosice to Poprad is as follows:
- Kosice 10:07 --> Poprad 11:22 (train no. R606)
- Kosice 12:07 --> Poprad 13:22 (train no. R608)
- Kosice 13:38 --> Poprad 14:45 (train no. IC504, requires a special ticket and seat reservation)
- Kosice 14:07 --> Poprad 15:22 (train no. R610)
- Kosice 15:07 --> Poprad 16:22 (train no. R760)
- Kosice 16:07 --> Poprad 17:22 (train no. R612)
- Kosice 17:32 --> Poprad 18:38 (train no. IC500, requires a special ticket and seat reservation)
- Kosice 18:07 --> Poprad 19:22 (train no. R440)

Traveling with the conference bus

The conference bus departs at 9:00 on Tuesday, June 14 from the main entrance of the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology located at the Radlinskeho 9 street (click here for a map). The return is scheduled for Friday, June 17 at around 19:00 (depends on traffic conditions).

The departure place can be reached as follows:

From Bratislava main railway station: take tram number 13 which is heading to 'Namestie Ludovita Stura'. You will have to buy a ticket from a vending machine at the railway station. Take the basic one valid for 15 minutes for 0.5 EUR. The ticket then needs to be stapled in a machine inside the tram. Get out on the 3rd stop called 'Slovenska Technicka Univerzita' and continue walking for about 100m to reach the main entrance of the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology (a large white staircase-like building on your right).
From Petrzalka railway station: take bus number 80 which is heading to 'Kollarovo namestie'. The bus departs every 6 minutes from the main entrance of the railway station. You will have to buy a bus ticket from a vending machine at the railway station. You can take the basic one valid for 15 minutes for 0.5 EUR. The ticket then needs to be stapled in a machine inside the bus. Once in the bus, get out at the terminal stop 'Kollarovo namestie'. Names of the stops are usually displayed inside the bus. When you get out, follow this map for a short 100m walk to the main entrance of Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology.
From the hostel (applies to certain participants): follow a short 10 minute path according to this map.

Reaching the conference hostel in Bratislava

Participants who opted to stay in Bratislava for some days before and/or after the conference will be accommodated in Hotel Akademik located at the Vazovova 1 street in Bratislava. The hotel can be reached by trams no. 2, 3, 8 operating from the Bratislava main railway station (don't forget to staple a 15min ticket inside the tram, get out on the 'Florianske Namestie' stop). When traveling via the Petrzalka railway station, take bus no. 94 to the 'Vazovova' stop.
